The 2 song writters, Angela Hunte & Jane’t “Jnay” Sewell-Ulepic, never expected the song they wrote which was "Empire State of Mind" to become such a huge hit.
They actually wrote the song back in February while overseas and had sent it to Roc Nation with the hopes that Jay-Z would hear it.
“We said to ourselves, ‘we complain so much about New York — about the busy streets, about the crowds and the pushing, about the subway system — but I would trade that for anything right now.’ Before we left the hotel that night, we knew we would write a song about our city.”
They only got bad reviews from them.
Until one day in summer, when the vice-president of EMI publishing heard the song at a BBQ and sent it to Jay-Z.
Well the rest is history, as they say!!
